Bara - Alternative Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ground yellow split peas
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 1 tsp chopped pepper
  • 1 tsp chopped shallot
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 pt oil for frying
  • Water to mix

Preparation

  • Sift dry ingredients together.
  • Add all the seasonings and mix well.
  • Add enough water to make a stiff dough.
  • Divide dough into small pieces, the size of a small potato.
  • Roll into a circular shape, about an eighth of an inch thick.
  • Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
  • Drain well. Serve hot with achar.
